Elizabeth F. Barkley

Welcome

The above graphic was designed by Jim Serfass in San Francisco to capture visually the three main facets of my professional career: musician, educator, and author. I suspect the piano and the book with quill pen are self-evident, but the lamp may need a bit of explanation.  The Latin root for the word “educate” is educare - to lead out. Lamps are recognized as symbols of learning because they capture this idea of being guided out of the darkness of ignorance. Although I have been a professional educator for almost four decades, I’m still fascinated by how people work together to “shed light” on topics to increase their mutual understanding.

This website is organized around these three facets.  On the educator page you’ll find out more about my work both as a teacher and as a keynote speaker/workshop presenter; on the author page, you’ll see descriptions of my books; and on the musician page, you’ll learn about my musical interests.  If you would like to see a brief bio, click here: 1-Barkley Brief Bio 2016.docx

I hope you enjoy your tour through my site. If you have any questions, I encourage you to drop me a note as I’m always interested in hearing from students, educators, and others who have the same passion for music, writing, teaching and learning as I do.

Sincerely, Elizabeth Barkley
