Elizabeth Barkley, Music Professor

The above graphic was designed by a friend in San Francisco who was trying to capture visually the three main facets of my professional career: musician, educator, and author. I suspect the piano and the book with quill pen are self-evident, but the lamp may need a bit of explanation.  The Latin root for the word “educate” is educare - to lead out. Lamps are recognized as symbols of learning because they capture this idea of being guided out of the darkness of ignorance. Although I have been a professional educator for over 30 years, I’m still fascinated by how people work together to “shed light” on topics to increase their mutual understanding.

This website is organized around these three facets.  On the musician page, you’ll learn about my musical interests; on the author page, you’ll see descriptions of my books; and on the educator page, you’ll find out more about my work both as a teacher and as a speaker and workshop presenter.  If you would like to see a more-or-less integrated Curriculum Vitae, click here:Barkley Biography CV 1-2014.pdf

I hope you enjoy your tour through my site. If you have any questions, I encourage you  to drop me a note as I’m always interested in hearing from students, educators, and others who have the same passion for learning as I do.

Sincerely, Elizabeth Barkley
